Dover Quartet

Friday | October 13, 2023 | 7:30 pm

ADULT $29 | 34 | 39  STUDENT $19

Named one of the greatest string quartets of the last hundred years (BBC Music Magazine), the twice GRAMMY-nominated Dover Quartet has followed a “practically meteoric” (Strings) trajectory to become one of the most in-demand chamber ensembles in the world. The group formed at the Curtis Institute of Music, and its name pays tribute to Dover Beach by fellow Curtis alumnus Samuel Barber. The quartet now serves as Ensemble-in-Residence at Curtis and holds further residencies with the Kennedy Center, Northwestern University, Artosphere, and the Amelia Island Chamber Music Festival. The quartet’s honors and awards include a stunning sweep at the 2013 Banff International String Quartet Competition, grand and first prizes at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition, prizes at the Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition, and world premieres with today’s best-known composers. At Cornell, the Dover Quartet will perform Haydn, Price, and Shostakovich. Join us for the ensemble The New Yorker calls “the young American string quartet of the moment.”

“Expert musicianship, razor-sharp ensemble, deep musical feeling, and a palpable commitment to communication make their performances satisfying on many levels.” – Chicago Tribune

PROGRAM:

Haydn: String Quartet in G minor, Op. 74, No. 3 (“Rider”)

Price: String Quartet No. 1 in G major
